Prompt #14

This week's prompt is to write a poem based on your experience with trauma.

Survivor:
I am not a victim.
I have picked up the pieces of my life
and put them back together.
I am not alone.
I walk in solidarity
with thousands of others like me.
I am not weak.
What has not killed me has made me stronger.
I am not a statistic.
Not a number, but flesh and bones.
Not a scare tactic, but a human being.
I am not a victim.
I am a survivor.

What would your poem be?

Healing My Life from Incest to Joy Review

Donna Jensen is an inspiration! Her book takes the reader on a journey - Jensen's healing journey as she processed incest. In doing so, she provides a guide for all trauma survivors and gives them invaluable tools for their own healing journeys. From writing to yoga to regaining her sexuality, she showcases how she was able to undo the trauma of childhood sexual abuse. Her resilient spirit and strength shines through. Terror, rage, and grief turn to joy, gratitude and love.

The exercises she provides are insightful. I have used her writing prompts in my support groups, and you might even notice them on this blog! 😊

Hers is a voice of change. She has taken her pain and uses her experience to help others. In the book you will read how Donna Jensen has created a community of survivor writers and assists them on their own journeys. You will read how she wrote a play about what it's like to grow up in a sexually abusive family. (I've seen it -- it's poignant, powerful, and simply amazing!) She utilizes this play to raise awareness and provide space for a dialogue on sexual abuse and its aftermath.

This book really is a how to on healing from trauma!

Here is her website where you can learn about her writing circles and her one-woman play!
